A brand new year calls for a brand new approach to my favorite hobby. The first projects for the 2015 Floral Fridays are light and simple. I brought out three containers with origins in different countries and made of different materials.
There’s a special place in my heart for the Netherlands. I’m guessing that most people who work with flowers can understand the affinity. This traditionally styled ceramic “shoe” was manufactured in Holland. I decided to gather a posey of various small blooms to place inside of it to accentuate the planter’s origins.
One of my other favorite countries is India. This fancy, engraved brass vase is the base for a South Asia inspired tall display for an orchid stem, snake grass, and palm leaves. Simplicity is the secret to a successful brass vase arrangement.
The trio of countries must include the United States. A vintage glass fan vase is home for an innovative design. Widely spaced silk elements are embedded within potpouri. The result is a double purpose room accent. It looks traditional, but really isn’t.
January is really a great time to reconnect with your interests or jump start a new hobby. I hope these idea starters provide some motivation for you.
