The Penultimate day of Spring brings on feelings and thoughts of the Summer ahead of us. This time of year can be the most bold time of all. The Spring rebirth is over and life is busy with activity and struggle. In the Northern Hemisphere, the Sun is at its strongest place.
I felt like bringing out these aspects while preparing for today’s Floral Friday. The three offerings are meant to come on strong. So far, I haven’t been able to discover the manufacturers of the three vases used today.
The first project uses a vase coated in gold gilt from West Virginia. It is not a vase for dainty spring buds. Only bold oranges and yellows are strong enough to provide the proper balance.
A classically inspired pitcher vase is a natural for this time of year. An intriguing depiction of Hercules in the middle of his first challenge. The demigod is shown slaying the Nemean Lion. The ancient theme is full of ferosity and disarray so I carried that through with the flowers.
The light tint of chartreuse is a summery color. The golden trim underlines that sensation. The last, purple tulips of Spring provide the foundation for the transition into dark reds, then hints of yellow in a generous display.
This is a strong time of year whether you live in the Northern Hemisphere with the onset of Summer or in the Southern Hemisphere as you get ready for the onslaught of Winter. This is the time to boldly express yourself.

The Blue Jay of Happiness likes Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He once wrote:
“Then indecision brings its own delays,
And days are lost lamenting o’er lost days.
Are you in earnest? Seize this very minute;
What you can do, or dream you can, begin it;
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.”
