Earthy Vintage …Floral Friday

As often happens, I finish a series of Floral Friday projects then notice an underlying theme or a similar base color. This week, shades of the color brown came together as I filled three vintage planters.

A Shawnee cockatoo container is home for a tropically inspired mini arrangement.  I like to piece together small projects while mulling over non-floral problems. Frequently solutions spontaneously appear for both situations at the same time. That situation was the inspiration for the cockatoo planter.

The cactus vase is pure kitsch.  I decided to balance that style with an avant gard inspired creation. This container has many fun possibilities that I will probably try out later.

The beautifully detailed fawn planter manufactured for the furniture company “Lane” is mesmerising. I cannot help but think of the popular phrase, “deer in the headlights”. The center of attention is the animal figure, so the best approach is to install plants that enhance the piece, not compete with it.

After setting the projects aside, I also concluded that brown certainly doesn’t have to mean drab.

mini-moiThe Blue Jay of Happiness puzzles over this statement by Yogi Berra, “The only color I don’t have is navy brown.”
