You can call them knick-knacks or you can call them novelties because small figural ceramic planters are often manufactured by the same companies that bring us tchotchkies. The fun thing is that they’re kitsch.
What baseball fan wouldn’t like this 1960s era Napcoware planter? The little slugger has a cartoonish expression as he stands next to the regulation size baseball flower container. A solitary spider mum is all that’s needed here. An air-fern would also be a home run in this piece.
The tiny kitten is pure knick-knack. It’s also a 1960s era artifact that was made in either Japan or Taiwan. The little thing is just a cute shelf sitter.
The small teevee lamp isn’t strictly a tchotchkie, but it’s slightly taller than a standard lightbulb so I include it here. The green panther fits into my definition of kitsch. It’s just a fun piece.
