Big Blooms …Floral Friday

Small, dainty flowers are cheerful and pleasant to see and work with. Medium size examples are the florist’s bread and butter. On the other hand, there are times when nothing will do except big, bold blooms. The jumbo size is what I craved this week.

“Waste not, want not” is one of my favorite mottoes. That was the motive behind the first project. I brought out one of my Robinson Ransbottom Sun and Moon jardinières for a different approach to hold feather flowers. The feather flowers were part of an old birthday gift from a couple of years ago so I didn’t want to discard them.

I cleaned the dust from them by whipping them outdoors in the wind. Some hot glue secured the feathers into the jardinière. Then it was just a matter of tweaking and fluffing the blooms into a symmetrical grouping.

An Aeonium shares the limelight with a bird of paradise in a tropical themed arrangement. They are anchored in a heavy weight ruby glass urn.

The “N” is a trademark for the long defunct Norge appliance company. The blue refrigerator jug makes a perfect foundation for thee jumbo sunflowers.

Ciao

The Blue Jay of Happiness quotes spokes-model Kirstie Alley.
“I was really tired of words like ‘plus size’, ‘
’round’ and ‘large’ I thought,
‘Come on, we’re fat.'”
