Orange Spotlighted …Floral Friday

I had resigned to the probability that there would be no day lilies near the front door at all this year. The plants were a third of their usual height and most of the bulbs had not even sprouted. The peculiar spring weather had adversely affected their growth. I’m used to seeing a few dozen blooming day lily plants each year.

The other day, I noticed one of the stunted plants sported a solitary flower. There is another bud on the stalk that appears ready to bloom soon, so there will probably be a pair of the flowers to enjoy this year. The orange flower inspired this week’s Floral Friday projects.

A cobalt blue flask contains a handful of poppies. The contrasting colors provide a bold, visual treat.

A small, slab-sided USA Pottery vase grounds out a cheerful selection of orange and yellow blooms.

The heavy, black marble vase contains a poppy, a Gerbera daisy, and a spider mum–all in orange.

The Blue Jay of Happiness quotes actor, model, singer, songwriter, TV personality, RuPaul. “I always bring an orange scarf, not just so I can wear it or tuck it into my pocket, but also so I can throw it over a lamp in the hotel room. Orange is my favourite colour, and it gives a lovely, warm ambience.”
