My summertime pause continues into day two with a break from inventing floral arrangements for today. Instead, I glanced around the house for some normally overlooked items. These are artificial or artistically manufactured plant-like forms.
One of my all-time favorites is a kitschy batch of obviously plastic daisies in a mid-century pot of Japanese manufacture. It’s pure, unapologetic camp.
To break up the space between a mini-stereo and the left channel speaker is a tiny shrine. The featured element is a plated wire faux Bonsai. Tiny pebbles form the potting material. Orange glassy pieces decorate the branches, there’s even a tiny fake bird.
The bedside nightstand is topped with a carved “leaf” arrangement made of tropical wood from the Philippines. I did put a little effort in this by disassembling, polishing, and reassembling it.
Ciao
The Blue Jay of Happiness ponders this gem from the poet Wallace Stevens: “Conceptions are artificial. Perceptions are essential.”
